Life with disease means a new life, a different life, a harder life both for the child and the parents.
The small everyday joys are replaced by helplessness, fear and anxiety – they never know what tomorrow brings as the chronically and seriously illnesses never recover from their illness.
The child's physical and mental development is hampered by social isolation and excessive care.
In Romania, annually, approximately 400 children are diagnosed with cancer, and 70% go into remission according to the National Registry of Childhood Cancer. At national level, there are approximately 4,000 children with insulin-dependent diabetes, according to the Ministry of Health. The number of children with other, rare autoimmune diseases such as juvenile arthritis, celiac disease, asthma, haemophilia, etc. it is not known because the medical and psycho-social services dedicated to them are poorly developed.
Chronically and seriously illnesses children need to feel alive: to feel joy, to laugh, to run. Every year, Yuppi Camp provides these experiences for 250 chronically and seriously illnesses children.
All children deserve childhood.
Yuppi camps are fun, full of smiles and games, but they are much more than that: real therapeutic processes take place within the camps, and this is vital for children and their families. Here's a little insight into this process.
