"Yuppi is something special to me because here I experienced for the first time the feeling that I'm not the only one living like this," confesses Tamara, a 10th-grade student at the "Segítő Mária" Roman Catholic Theological High School in Miercurea-Ciuc, and a participant in the Yuppi camp for young people with diabetes.
A few weeks ago, Ágnes, Tamara's classmate, contacted us with a wonderful idea: their class planned to organize an open-air cinema in Vlăhița, and they wanted to support Yuppi Camp by selling tickets. Tamara had told them a lot about this camp, and her classmates really wanted to help other children and young people facing a similar situation.
"It was a great joy for us to contribute so that this summer, children with chronic illnesses could participate in the Yuppi camps. I remember when I first heard about this camp — we thought how wonderful it is that even children suffering from various chronic illnesses can live their childhoods, can feel what it means to be part of a community. Each of them deserves the love, joy, and fun that this camp offers, and we are grateful that we could contribute to making it happen this year," Ágnes shares.
"In Yuppi camps, no one is alone. Often, in everyday life, we feel that 'no one truly understands me,' 'no one knows what it's like for me.' Then we step through the Yuppi camp gate, and suddenly, we all carry the same thing. We live with the same illness every day, with the same difficulties, questions, and challenges. Yuppi is something special to me because here I experienced for the first time the feeling that I'm not the only one living like this. Each of us had a diet, insulin, a sensor on our arm; everyone went through hypoglycemia and hyperglycemia the same way. In camp, I always learn something new about my illness and how to manage it more easily day by day. Every moment, every camp, every activity organized by Yuppi brings something new: friendships, unforgettable moments, energy, knowledge, love," Tamara confesses.
We thank the girls and the entire 10th grade class of the "Segítő Mária" Roman Catholic Theological High School for their enthusiasm and support. They are true role models!
